Data analyst Anna is making a real impact in her role
Starting her career as a merchandising assistant, Anna always enjoyed working with spreadsheets, delving into formulas and exploring how they worked together - so a move to an insight and reporting role at an engineering firm was a natural move.
But once she started to discover the limitations of working with excel, Anna sought to find an exciting company that was putting data at the forefront of its strategy and growing its in-house data teams. Enter M&S.

As part of our five-year transformation plan, M&S is becoming a digital first business and changes are being made to deliver technology that brings real value to our business and our customers. With the appointment of Chief Data & Digital Officer, Jeremy Pee, and our first head of data science, Mehdi Hosseini, these changes are afoot – something which Anna is excited to be a part of in her role as a Data Analyst in the M&S Food team.
“Data and digital is such a priority for the business and you can really feel that. You know you’re making an impact because you know you’re making somebody’s life easier or generating some really good insight for them that will be really useful in their role”, says Anna.
“The biggest challenge in my role is figuring out why things don’t go the way you want them to in reporting, but the flipside to that is you are constantly learning because you have to go back and learn why. That’s really rewarding.”
