Now I'm discovering skills I never knew I had
Helping you find work
One of the best things about M&S is the amazing array of talented people we have working with us – people from all kinds of backgrounds, with all sorts of different skills and experiences to draw on.
The people we recruit all have one important thing in common – the desire to learn, grow and develop. Whether they’re young people, the homeless, lone parents or those with disabilities, we can help them find work with us – and we can do the same for you, thanks to a range of programmes that provide work placements and training in the stores and offices across our business.
Read about some real life Marks & Start experiences.
Marks & Start is a work placement programme which helps people who face barriers getting into work. The three key groups the programme is aimed at are:
- Single parents
- People with disabilities or health conditions
- People who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
We also support veterans, service leavers and ex-offenders into work through the employability programmes we run with our partners.
If you’re accepted onto this programme, you’ll receive the coaching and support you need to take part in a two or four week placement in an M&S store. You’ll have the help of a buddy as you learn more about the role and get a real insight into the job, then plenty of follow-up support. You might even be put forward for a permanent role!
Make Your Mark
If you’re aged between 18 - 25 and not in employment, education or training, Make Your Mark could be exactly the programme you’ve been looking for. Designed in partnership with The Prince’s Trust to develop the skills and confidence young people need to find work, Make Your Mark provides you with hands-on experience of an M&S job, training in employability skills and the support of a coach and buddy. It may even lead on to a permanent position.
To learn more about the programme and how you can take part, you can also visit the Prince’s Trust website here or call their contact centre on 0800 842842.
Make Your Mark is M&S’s commitment to a wider campaign called Movement to Work – a collaboration of employers committed to tackling youth unemployment by providing high quality vocational training and work experience, find out more here www.movementtowork.com.
Marks & Start Logistics
Marks & Start Logistics supports those who experience barriers to employment by providing the opportunity to work at our distribution centre in Castle Donington, East Midlands. Marks & Start International
Marks & Start International is operational in our stores in France, Greece and Poland, and in our suppliers’ factories in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In-store programmes support individuals who are long-term unemployed, while those in our supplier’s factories are tailored to support groups who are particularly vulnerable in that country.
In our stores in Paris, we work with the Conseil Regionale to help people who are long-term unemployed back into work. More information can be found on the Il de France website, or by asking in-store.
In Greece, the Marks & Start programme supports young people into work. For more details, please contact your local store in Greece.
Throughout India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh our Marks & Start programme focuses on vocational skills disabled people need to take on a technical role in a factory. The best way to find out more about these programmes is to contact our partner organisations:
